Fingerprint Paul Bennett - Crime Thriller Writer

ABOUT ME
I spent my early years in North London, the rest of my childhood and teenage years in South London and then six years in Exeter, where I read Economics. None of this has any relevance to my writing, but it does make for a very singular accent.

I worked in marketing, in an advertising agency and then ran my own market research agency for ten years before selling it to a marketing services company (which subsequently went bust!). While I try to spend most of my time writing, I still do a little consultancy to put butter and jam on the thin bread of royalties.

I now live in Essex in a barn dating back to 1740 (must get around to converting it sometime) with my wife and two daughters. My main hobby is bridge and one dizzying year I qualified for the final of both the National Pairs and National Teams. I am a 4 star Master, which sounds good but is only half the way up the ranking ladder. My other main interest is travel, and I have been lucky enough to lecture on marketing and market research in China, Turkey, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Holland, Denmark and Portugal. Well, not always lucky - don't ask about Bulgaria!

About my books
I have had four novels published to date - The 'Shannon' series of crime thrillers. In order, these books are: Due Diligence, Collateral Damage, False Profits and The Money Race. The main theme of these books, if you can't guess from the titles, is fraud.

I have finished a thriller, outside of the Shannon series, called Catalyst and I am currently working on another thriller, provisionally titled Mercenary.

Due Diligence has been optioned for a TV series (but, in the world of novels, many are called but few are chosen) and a film production company is working on a script of Catalyst.

About my influences
My favourite crime and thriller writers are Len Deighton, Raymond Chandler, Robert B Parker and Michael Crichton. As you might expect from that list, my heroes tend to have a throwaway wit which is like a cross between Harry Palmer (Deighton's hero in The Ipcress File, Funeral In Berlin etc.) and Marlowe/Spencer.
